Wagging Right’s Family-Focused Dog Training & Education programs were developed to build a successful relationship between your child and family dog by building a foundation of trust and communication. Our goal is to help parents educate their children so they have the tools to not only be responsible pet owners, but also to have the knowledge of how to be safe around dogs. We use tools that make learning about pet safety and education fun and interesting for both kids and their families.
Dog Bite Statistics in Children
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Humane Society, there are approximately 4.7 million dog bites every year in the U.S., and it’s believed this estimate is low. With the U.S. population just over 333 million, that means 1 in 71 people will be bit by a dog. The Humane Society estimates 51% of dog bite victims are children. The scariest part is that according to the CDC, most dog bites affecting young children occur while interacting with their own dog or a friend’s dog.
When you consider the fact that dog bites have risen 300% per 1000 emergency department patients since COVID (Journal of Pediatrics), it has never been more important to teach children dog bite prevention and responsible pet ownership practices.
Children are more likely than adults to need medical attention, and are far more likely to be severely injured.Center for Disease Control (CDC)
The reality is that these bites, for the most part, could be prevented if parents only knew the statistics and how important it is to educate children in pet safety and responsible pet ownership.
